Post 1: A Country I would like to visit.

If I had to choose any country that I could visit in any time, I'm pretty sure it would be Palestine.

My name is Eduardo Ubillo Harcha; my second last name comes from Palestine. My grand-grand-parents were born in Palestine, in the town of Beit-Jala. Around the decade of 1900 they traveled from their land to Chile, searching for a better future, due to the conflict with the otoman empire and its reforms. More than a hundred years have passed now, but our connection to the culture lives on. But... I have never visited Palestine, so it's in my greatest desires to visit the land.

Visiting Palestine implicates many complications. First of all, the israeli government has closed the entry, so it's not something about just buying a ticket, get on the plane and arrive to your destination. You have to answer many questions to the policemen once you get there and say that you want to enter Palestine, sometimes real interrogations. Other complication is the language: I have zero knowledge in arabic, so trying to live there would be really difficult. Because of that, I really want to learn the language, and I'm thinking about taking a class of arabic the next year. Besides that, it's always difficult to visit another country, specially so far, since you have to keep in mind how much it will cost to travel, the hotel/hostal, the food, etc. But in Palestine, you have to sum up the insecurity of the territory, since the war with Israel lingers on.

If I ever go there, I'd like to visit what's left of Beit-Jala, and try to find out where my ancestors lived. Also, I'd like to visit the Holy Lands in Palestine. Even though I'm not a believer, I think that visiting this lands has a big cultural value, and that if you have the chance, you can't miss it.

Now, though I'd like to visit Palestine, I'm not sure if I would like to live there. Maybe when I'm older, so I could support the palestinian community and deliver my knowledge to the people, maybe as a professor or working for a better future, one that can bring peace and freedom to the palestinians.

The first image is the historical territory of Palestine until 1948, year when the state of Israel declared its independance in palestinian soil. The second image is from the olive trees in Palestine. The olive harvest is one of the principal economic activities of the country.

That's all for today. Bye!
